US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continued her diplomatic charm offensive with a visit to the European Union headquarters in Brussels today.
The message from the Obama adminstration was that America was offering the EU a new relationship based on dialogue and compromise. She said Washington was committed to strengthening the transatlantic alliance. A reporter asked her: “You just had your first visit to Asia, does this mean that old Europe is not as important for the United States?” She replied: “Well, the last question is easy to answer. Europe is our essential partner and what we are going to do together to seize the opportunities and meet the challenges… and as just as a slight amendment: Vice president Biden came to Europe before I went to Asia… so we are trying to cover the world and I am very happy to be here at the European parliament.”
