Opel warns more job cuts on way

General Motor’s German outfit Opel says it could slash 3500 jobs as part of a plan to cut costs and relaunch as an independent carmaker.

Opel makes cars in Britain, Spain, Belgium, Poland Russia and Germany where it employs 25 000 workers. The company has called for EU aid of over three billion euros to survive. Today Chancellor Angela Merkel said Opel was “not systematically crucial to the German economy.”More about:
