The US is pledging to work closely with China on dealing with the global financial crisis.
On a visit to Beijing, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton talked about building a positive and cooperative partnership. She said Washington would continue to raise concern about human rights but that would not interfere in their overall relationship. The fight against global warming was also high on the agenda at the talks. Clinton said: “The US and China will build an important partnership to develop and deploy clean energy technologies designed to speed our transformation to low carbon economies. These technologies are essential both to spur sustainable economic growth in our countries and to contain the increasingly urgent problem of global climate change.” Both China and the US are the world’s leading greenhouse gas emitters. An agreement on cutbacks is seen as crucial if a global deal is to be achieved.
