Welsh singer Duffy scored a hat-trick at the Brit Awards scooping three prizes including best British album.
A relative unknown just a year ago the 24-year-old, also won best female artist and British breakthrough act.
“I travelled this whole country from Wales to London and back again a thousand times, playing my songs to old ladies who are probably watching the TV tonight saying that they probably heard some of my songs, so thank you to the British public. I can’t tell you what this means after five years. Thank you so much.”
Duffy’s winning album Rockferry was the UK’s top seller last year with worldwide sales close to five million.
Girls Aloud won the public vote for best British single with the track they performed on the night The Promise.
Pet Shop Boys received an award for their outstanding contribution to music and wound up the show with a medley of some of their biggest hits.
