Germany’s economy minister says he will submit a request to resign to Chancellor Angela Merkel, even though a previous request was turned down.Michael Glos wrote to the chairman of his Christian Social Union party on Saturday asking to be relieved of his cabinet post, but the chairman refused. A senior CSU official now says Glos’s successor will be named late this morning. The CSU is the sister-party of the Chancellor’s Christian Democrats. Glos has said he wants as resign as he’s nearing 65 and has no intention of serving in the cabinet after a federal election due in September. The episode is causing further strain in a coalition already undermined by disputes between the left and right.
