The first picture has been released of the man charged with the knife killings of two babies and an adult at a nursery in Belgium. The jobless 20-year-old has been identified only as “Kim D.” Charged with murder and attempted murder, he was arrested shortly after the rampage that has left the whole country in shock. Prosecutor Christian Du Four told a news conference that two knives which he said certainly belonged to the suspect were found near the crime scene. He added that at the time of his arrest the man was carrying a knife, a small axe and a fake pistol. As speculation grows about the motive for the frenzied attack at the nursery in Dendermonde, Belgians continue to pay stunned tribute to its victims. Some survivors need plastic surgery. Local media has evoked the idea of a so-called “Joker” killer – amid reports the knifeman’s face was painted white and his eyes blackened, like the criminal mastermind in the Batman films.
