Hillary Clinton has won approval from the Senate to become the next US Secretary of State.
A large majority of the 100 senators voted in favour of Clinton’s nomination for the post by President Barack Obama, clearing her to move quickly into her role as the country’s top diplomat. She will replace former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. News of the appointment comes despite renewed Republican doubts about potential conflicts of interest created by Clinton’s husband’s fundraising through his charitable organisation. Among the hundreds of millions of euros given to the Clinton Foundation are donations from foreign governments that Hillary could be dealing with in her new role.
