With just hours to go before Barack Obama’s inauguration, hundreds of thousands of people are arriving in Washington DC.

A record crowd is expected with at least a million people likely to fill the city’s National Mall and thousands more to line up along the parade route to the White House. People across the United States have boarded buses, trains and planes to head for the capital. In Indianapolis, supporters braved sub zero temperatures to load their bags onto specially hired coaches for the trek across several states. Security is the tightest it has ever been for what is only the second inauguration since 9-11. Nine thousand police officers will be joined by thousands of National Guard members. This is on top of the five thousand professional soldiers and sailors who will be on the ground.More about: ,
