Three rockets fired from Lebanon have hit northern Israel, in the second such attack since Israeli forces launched their Gaza offensive 19 days ago.No casualties have been reported locally this time. Last week’s attack raised fears that guerrillas in Lebanon might open a second front. Israel responded to the latest rockets with artillery fire into south Lebanon. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Israeli authorities said the rockets landed in fields outside the city of Kiryat Shmona. Fierce fighting continued in Gaza city between Palestinian militants and Israeli soldiers. A French news agency source said Hamas was under fire from Israeli tanks. The death toll in Gaza yesterday was 70, emergency services said. This brings the total since December 27 close to a thousand Palestinian dead, with 4,500 others wounded. Ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians have been killed.
