They marched in Marseille and in London – pro-Israel, anti-war protesters.
As many as 20,000 people joined a rally in the southern French port. Guarded by 4,000 police officers the crowd converged on the Israeli consulate building but there was no repeat of the violent incidents during a pro-Palestinian rally in Paris a day earlier. In London’s Trafalgar Square a gathering of 4,000 pro-Israel demonstrators passed off relatively peacefully. The rally called for an end to violence in the Middle East. Organisers said they wanted the people of Gaza and Israel to live in peace but said Palestinians must accept some responsibility for the current conflict.
