Israel says there will be no restraint in its attacks on Gaza and warned that it is about to begin a “new phase in the war on terror.”
With the conflict entering its third week, Palestinian officials now say more than 800 people have died as a result of the attacks. Israeli troops are reported to be edging closer to Gaza City and are said to have engaged in the most close-quarter fighting so far. Thirteen Israelis have been killed, including ten soldiers as Hamas continues to launch rockets suggesting neither side is ready to heed calls for an immediate ceasefire. However, Hamas has sent officials to Cairo to discuss the Egyptian peace plan.
