Good year end for German retail sales


Retail sales in Germany rose in November and probably did in December according to figures from the Federal Statistics Office.

However that is unlikely to have prevented a sharp contraction in quarterly growth in Europe’s largest economy. At the same time the President of Germany’s central bank, Axel Weber, said the German economy would have ended 2008 on a weaker footing than the bank had previously thought and would only start to regain momentum next year.
