Rescue plane spots 'distress call' Vendee yacht

A chilean rescue plane is reported to have spotted the boat of a participant in the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world yacht race who had issued a distress call.

After rounding Cape Horn Frenchman Jean Le Cam told his support team by satellite phone that he was experiencing what he called “big problems” in high winds. A short time later all contact was lost. Search planes took off from Chile and a number of vessels are sailing towards Le Cam’s last know position. Fellow Frenchman Michel Desjoyeaux remains in the lead.
