As the images of the destruction of Gaza continue to dominate television screens, demonstrators are stepping up their protests. Thousands attended anti-war rallies around the globe, accusing Israel of using disproportionate force and not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties. Big protests are planned in cities such as London and Paris today, with celebrities joining the calls for action.“The reason I am here today is to use my freedom of speech, my right as an individual human being in a free world to encourage people to get together and protest this means of conflict resolution which will never, ever work,” said singer Annie Lennox. Demonstrations were to be expected in Arab countries, but they have grown in size in Europe too. Many protestors agree that Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel, but say the Israeli government has gone too far in its military response.
