Hundreds of gay activists have held a protest demonstration in front of St Peter’s Square in Rome. They’re outraged at the Vatican’s refusal, to back a UN resolution calling on governments to de-criminalise homosexuality. The proposal, is to be put by France on behalf of the European Union later this month.

Francesca Musdraghi of “Action Trans” says the Vatican is making a big mistake because it’s giving the impression that it backs the death penalty, torture and imprisonment of people like her.”

The Vatican firmly refutes the allegation saying that it does not condone human rights violations on any human being including homosexuals. It can’t support the French initiative because the proposal implicitly legitimises homosexuality which is against catholic teachings.
