Palestinians hurt in Jewish settler riot

world news

| |

At least 13 Palestinians have been hurt in a violent protest over a disputed house in the West Bank town of Hebron. Hundreds of angry Jewish settlers have hurled stones at the homes of their Palestinian neighbours. More than a dozen Jewish families have been living in one of the houses for the past year, and now face eviction by the Israeli authorities. They claim they bought the property legally and have refused to move despite a court order.

Palestinian residents responded to the violence against them with their own stone-throwing. Children were among the injured. The Israeli army tried to intervene but failed to stop the hail of projectiles. Hebron is home to 650 Jewish settlers who mostly live in fortified enclaves in the middle of a 180,000-strong Palestinian communityMore about: , ,
