Britain’s social services are again in the pillory following the conviction of a man for raping his daughters and fathering nine children by them.
The case follows hot on the heels of the horrific Baby P affair, in which a two year old was tortured and killed, and which has revolted the nation.
He was given twenty-five life sentences by a court in Sheffield.
“The abuse to which the women have been subjected is beyond comprehension. In his treatment of his victims the defendant sank to the most profound depths of depravity. He even refused to come into court to face his victims to listen to the case against him, and to hear the judge sentence him.”
System failure dogged the women. When they appealed for help to the Childline phone service they were warned their children might be taken from them, yet when one was challenged about the father’s identity by a doctor, she refused to confirm incest.
Austria’s Josef Fritzl maintained power over his victims via imprisonment. The Sheffield man often changed address and claimed school bullying was the reason for his daughters’ injuries. Ten other children either died or were aborted.
