A school has collapsed in Haiti killing at least 50 people, most of them children. Rescue workers also say that more than 120 people were injured, 20 of whom are in a serious condition in hospital. The church school caved in at around 10 o’clock local time, while students were in class.
The building near the Caribbean nation’s capital Port-au-Prince, did not meet normal structural standards, according to Haiti’s president. Part of the school had already collapsed several years ago and the third and top floor was under construction. Up to 700 children were thought to be in the building at the time.
