Mexico’s Interior minister is confirmed as being one of six people killed after a small tourist aircraft crashed into rush hour traffic in Mexico city.

Juan Camilo Mourino was on the plane which came down as it was trying to land at Mexico City airport.

The Learjet immediately burst into flames.

At least five other people are being treated for serious injuries.

Air traffic control said the aircraft was approximately five kilometres away when the pilot reported an emergency – they did not say what kind – and contact was lost.
