US attack helicopters have launched a raid on a farm in eastern Syria close to the Iraqi border, killing at least eight civilians and injuring others.
There was outrage in Damascus and US and Iraqi officials have been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to explain.
The Pentagon has yet to confirm the attack. However – a military spokesperson said the raid targeted a network of foreign fighters
America accuses Syria of not doing enough to prevent militants entering into Iraq.
The Bou Kamel border area, close to the target, is the country’s main crossing point into Iraq.
A government official said: “Syria condems this aggressive act and holds American forces responsible for this aggression and all of its repercussions.”
Among the victims was a father and his four children.
