Trouble feared as Jorg Haider is buried

world news

| |

More than 30,000 people are expected to converge on Klagenfurt in Austria today for the funeral of Far Right politician Jorg Haider, killed in a car crash. It is feared there could be violence as Haider has provoked as much controversy after his death as he often did before, with critics slamming plans to give him a hero’s funeral.

But the man who died while driving drunk at twice the legal speed limit, was a national hero to some. He was once quoted as saying refugees were criminals. It is not yet known if other Far Right leaders from across Europe plan to attend.
