Olympic strike paralyses Greek flights

world news

A wide-ranging transport strike has paralysed the Greek capital Athens, as a row over the national airline intensifies. Olympic Airlines is due to be sold off as part of the conservative government’s privatisation plans. The strike action forced the carrier to cancel around 50 flights, both within Greece and internationally.

The strike was timed to hit the morning rush-hour in Athens, forcing thousands of commuters to struggle to work through traffic jams.

The New Democracy government has vowed to push ahead with its reforms, arguing that Greece faces going bust if nothing is done.
