A retrospective exhibition of Portuguese artist Paula Rego with works dating from the 50’s to the present day has opened at the Manuel de Brito Art Centre in Alges, Lisbon.
She was born in the Portuguese capital in 1935 into a rich family, during Salazar’s fascist era, which influenced her art. “I’m a feminist, the only way I have to transmit my ideas is through my paintings, I don’t walk on the streets with placards, I do what I can do best, that is to draw.”
