US presidential candidates react to Congress "No" vote

An optimistic Barack Obama has said he believes Congress will ultimately pass the 700 billion dollar proposal. The Democratic White House hopeful had these words as he spoke to a crowd in Colorado:

“One of the messages that I have to Congress is get this done. Democrats, Republicans, step up to the plate, get it done, and understand that even as you get it done to stabilise the markets, we have more work to do to make sure that main street is getting the same kind of help that Wall Street.”

For the Republican presidential candidate, John McCain, Congress must get back to work right away:

“Now it’s time for all members of Congress to go back to the drawing board. I call on Congress to get back obviously immediately to address this crisis. Our leaders are expected to leave partisanship at the door and come to the table to solve our problems.”
