French deficit problems loom

France has admitted it will not be able to meet the budget deficit goals it has agreed with the European Union.

The government’s newly unveiled budget plans for next year are supposed to keep the deficit below the EU’s limit of 3% of gross domestic product

But analysts said that is based on an unrealistic 1% economic growth forecast.

Rising debt and slowing growth mean France will have difficulty boosting the flagging economy.
