Telecom Italia to cut jobs


The three main unions at Telecom Italia say that an agreement has been reached for 5,000 job cuts – that is 8% of the work force.

Telecom Italia is restructuring to try to reduce costs.

The company, which is Europe’s fifth-biggest telecommunications operator by market value, is carrying 37 billion euros of debt and faces falling profits

Italian newspapers have reported that it is also looking to sell assets, including spinning off its fixed-line network.
