Polish shipbuilders have been demonstrating outside the European Commission’s headquarters. They called on EU regulators to act in such a way that they do not lose their job.
Brussels has promised to give its answer promptly whether Polish government rescue plans for two shipyards are acceptable. The two shipyards have received well over two billion euros in government aid since 2004.
Warsaw has just approved both yards another aid package worth €353 million. Failing a tenable plan to make the yards profitable, Brussels said it would order Warsaw to reclaim the money, which could bankrupt the yards.
