At least 18 people were killed and around 50 more injured in a series of five bomb explosions in the Indian capital, New Delhi. Police say two devices detonated in dustbins in a city centre area popular with tourists for shopping and eating out. Others exploded in busy markets throughout the city within minutes of each other. Another bomb had been left close to the entrance of a Metro station on a main arterial road. Two more were found and made safe.

According to police, a group called India Mujahideen said they carried out the attacks. Police say this latest series of attacks seemed comprised of low intensity explosions in densely populated areas.
