The European football federation UEFA says it wants to lead the way in the campaign against racism in sport, with a television campaign .

As a co-venture with the European Commission, the adver is planned for airing at half time at all this
season’s Champion League matches.

Mbark Boussoufra, who plays for Belgian club Anderlecht, at the campaign launch in Brussels said:

“Playing professionally for four years, I’ve experienced racism, as a Muslim of Moroccan origin. I’ve heard comments on my religion.”

UEFA said it was not so naive as to think the problem would be solved overnight, but with the Commission it aims to set an example.
