Steinmeier to run against Merkel next year?

Germany’s Social Democrats are meeting, amidst a crisis over leadership of the party. According to several media reports, the party has agreed to announce Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier as its candidate for Chancellor next year. The Berliner Zeitung and Spiegel Online said – without quoting sources – that senior leaders have decided Steinmeier will run against Chancellor Angela Merkel in next year’s federal elections.
