At least 61 people have died in Haiti as a result of flooding caused by Hurricane Hanna. This is the third time Haiti has been hit by a tropical storm in as many weeks.

The majority of those who died were in the north of the island. Rescue convoys, including UN peacekeepers, were forced to turn back from the north-eastern city of Gonaives due to floods.

Hanna has now been downgraded to a tropical storm and is headed for the Bahamas. However, the fear is that it will regain force before hitting Cuba and the southern United States.

Weather experts are also warning that Hurricane Ike has strengthened into a Category Four storm in the North Atlantic, but say its too early to predict its direction.
