Anti-Chinese demonstrators refuse to be silenced


Anti-China protestors continue to keep their causes in the spotlight. Tibetan and Burmese groups demonstrated in New York as the world’s eyes were on the spectacular Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing. Several marchers clashed with New York police outside the Chinese consulate.

At the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, three American citizens were forcibly detained by Chinese police. They had been attempting to unfurl Tibetan flags but were swiftly dealt with.

Pro-Tibetan demonstrators clashed with security forces in Kathmandu aware of the opportunity to embarrass the Chinese on their big day.

In Ankara, a Turkish man attempted to set himself alight in front of the Chinese embassy to draw attention to the plight of ethnic Uighurs.
