Tension rises in Gaza as clashes kill four

world news

| |

Clashes between Hamas gunmen and members of a Fatah-supporting clan has left four people dead and more wounded in Gaza. Hamas said it raided what it called a hideout of bombing suspects. The target was the stronghold of the Hilles clan which backs Hamas’ rival Fatah. Hamas police said their forces were fired upon with rocket launchers.

The Gaza City clan claims it was Hamas doing the shooting as homes came under attack from rocket launchers and machine guns. The violence follows last week’s bombings which killed five Hamas militants and a six-year old girl. Fatah denies any involvement in the explosion. But more than 200 of its supporters have been arrested including two senior officials.
