Hamas raids clan linked to Fatah over bombing

Hamas has raided what it has called a hideout of bombing suspects in Gaza.

As many as 16 people are said to have been wounded in a confrontation between Hamas forces and the Hilles clan in Gaza City which backs Hamas’ rival Fatah.

Hamas police claimed Hilles gunmen fired on them with rocket launchers and machine guns. That has been denied by a member of the Hilles clan, who claimed that Hamas forces were attacking the homes of family members.

Hamas launched the biggest crackdown on the Fatah faction in Gaza in a year after last week’s bombings which killed five Hamas militants and a six-year-old girl.

Fatah denies any involvement in the explosion. But more than 200 Fatah supporters have been arrested including senior officials of the organisation.
