Police in France have arrested another suspected ETA commander. A man and a woman were picked up near Dijon after a stolen car was involved in a hit-and-run accident. A weapon was discovered in the boot of the vehicle. Asier Eceiza was one of six ETA leaders featured on wanted posters across France and Spain.
The woman arrested with him has been identified as Olga Comes, alleged to have been working with an ETA cell believed to have been broken up by Spanish police this week.
Members were said to have been planning a major attack in Getxo, near Bilbao, as well as the kidnap of a Basque politician from the ruling Socialist party and the assassination of a leading anti-terrorist judge.
Three arms caches have subsequently been discovered in Spain containing more than 100 kilograms of explosives, detonators, weapons and tranquilising drugs.
