Suicide bombers have killed around 30 people at a recruitment centre for the Iraqi army north of Baghdad.
More than 60 people were wounded in the attack in the town of Baquba, capital of the province of Diyala. It has been the scene of a string of bombings in recent months, and the Interior Ministry has announced it is about to launch a military operation there, although it has not said when.
Further north in the city of Mosul, two separate suicide attacks claimed at least nine lives.
Described by the US military as al-Qaeda’s last major urban haven in Iraq, Mosul has been the target of a vast military operation in the last couple of months, which has led to a relative drop in violence.
In the capital Baghdad, the Electricity Minister escaped a bomb attack on his convoy but two of his bodyguards were wounded.
