Suicide bomber hits Indian Embassy in Kabul

A car bomb has been detonated outside the Indian Embassy in the Afghan capital, killing dozens of people and wounding more than 140.

While the building is directly opposite the Interior Ministry, the suicide bomber struck the embassy side of the street, where dozens of people were waiting in line for visas.

Taliban insurgents have vowed to step up their campaign to overthrow the pro-Western Afghan government and drive out foreign forces.

India has close ties with the Afghan government and is funding a number of major infrastructure projects.
