EU tests joint police stations for tourist areas


In countries popular with foreign tourists, the EU is considering transplanting police from their home states.

The interior ministers have also been discussing joint police stations at major sporting events.

France is planning a pilot project in the pilgrim city of Lourdes, for the Pope’s visit in September.

Franco-Italian police are due in Paris, Versailles and Nice before that.

The possibility of tourists being able to use their own language to solve problems was recognised as an attractive, practical idea.

Police exchange programmes to share best practices are also under development.
