Rescued Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt is on her way to Paris. A special diplomatic flight was organised for Betancourt, who has dual Colombian-French nationality, for her to see family members in Paris, where she is expected to land within hours. The French foreign minister and several family members are flying with her.
In Paris she will also be received by President Sarkozy, who had been lending some high-profile support during her captivity, and pushing for increased efforts to free her after six years in the jungle.
Today she will be an honoured guest of the city of Paris. Her supporters began a party for her yesterday that is yet to stop.
The French had regularly tried to negotiate with her FARC kidnappers, but its unknown how much of a role they played in her escape.
