world news

| |

A female suicide bomber has killed 15 people and wounded 39 in the northern Iraqi city of Baquba. The woman detonated the device after walking over to a group of police officers outside a restaurant near government offices. Victims were taken to a local hospital with eight police officers and a number of civilians among those killed.

Part of the Diyala province, attacks in the multi-ethnic region have been blamed on Sunni insurgents with links to Al Qaeda.

It’s the latest in a series of female suicide bombings in city so far this year. Violence in Iraq had dropped to a four year low following an Iraqi and US security surge. However, the bombing in Baquba is the second of two big attacks in Iraq in the last week.
