A suicide bomb attack in northern Sri Lanka has left at least 12 people dead and 22 injured. The Tamil Tiger rebel group is suspected of being behind the blast. Officials say a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle blew himself up in front of a police station in the town of Vavuniya.
It is reported that children are among the casualties. Fighting in Sri Lanka’s 25-year-old civil war is now concentrated in the north of the country.
The rebels were pushed out of their eastern enclave by government forces last year. The Tamil Tigers want an independent state in the north and east of the country.
