The Russian president has lashed out at the United States, accusing it of causing the global financial crisis.
Speaking to the world’s business elite at the opening of the International Economic Forum in St Petersburg, Dmitry Medvedev cited ‘disappointment with the US dollar’, and the inability of the global institutions to deal with the volatility, for the world’s present economic woes.
“The role of the US in the world economy does not correspond to its real capacity,” said Medvedev.
He called for reform of the financial institutions.
The Russian president also insisted his country’s attempts to boost its role in the world economy are not based on imperalist ambition, but rather a reflection of the resources Russia possesses.
