Paedophile 'fantasists' could face ten years in jail

French prosecutors have demanded ten years in prison for two suspected paedophiles accused of planning to kidnap, rape and kill a young girl.

Herve Limbour and Christian Cadart were arrested after their alleged plot was uncovered by a Belgian child protection website. A Belgian policeman joined their online chat. The prosecution said the pair had shown clear intent to commit the crimes, while the defence said the operation was tantamount to incitement.

Their lawyer, Philippe Lescene, said: “Yes, there were some discussions, but since when is a conversation punishable by law? Since when is the exchange of ideas, even the worst imaginable, against the law?”

Lambour and Cadart say it was just a fantasy. They say the police officer sparked the idea by asking them what they would do if they kidnapped a young girl. But the prosecution say they already had a location picked out.
