The world of cinema is paying tribute to Sydney Pollack, who has died at the age of 73.
“He made the world a little better,” said George Clooney of the actor, producer and director with whom he recently appeared in ‘Michael Clayton’.

Among Pollack’s most famous films is ‘Tootsie’, which he directed, produced and starred in alongside Dustin Hoffman. Pollack was awarded two Academy Awards in 1986 for Best Picture and Best Director for his adaptation of ‘Out of Africa’, a film which scooped seven Oscars. Respected for bringing out the best in his cast, 12 actors won Oscar nominations under his direction. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, two children and six grandchildren.
