Nearly 200 firefighters battled to save a prominent cultural landmark in Berlin on Tuesday. The blaze, at the home of the Berlin Philharmonic, broke out while the orchestra was rehearsing in front of members of the public. Officials say everyone got out unharmed.
Crews tried to open the roof to get better access to the seat of the fire, as smoke belched from the upper panels of the famous structure near Berlin’s city-centre. The distinctive yellow building was completed in 1963, and though it drew controversy, is renowned for its acoustics.
