Brown seeks popularity boost with new financial plans

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who has been suffering from a major slump in his popularity rating has put helping the finances of Britain’s families at the top of his “to do“list.
The proposals are part of the Labour government’s forthcoming legislative programme.

“Our immediate priority for the coming session at a time when food and fuel prices are rising and mortgages more difficult to obtain is to help family finances and in the next few weeks we will set out the elements of our economic plan as we steer our economy safely through the global downturn,” announced the prime minister to parliament.

Brown and his government have been accused of running out of steam by Britain’s opposition after what they claim has been a series of economic policy gaffes.
