The defeated nationalist leader Tomislav Nikolic. knows the maths may favour the Keep Kosovo diehards, and while he was happy to see Tadic’s voters let off steam after their party came out on top, it was a different matter for the president himself. his warning is perhaps an indication of conflict to come;
“It’s very probable we’ll be able to form a coalition that excludes the Democrats. What I want to say to Serbian citizens who are rightly celebrating winning the biggest share of the vote tonight is that Boris Tadic has no right to turn this party into victory celebrations for a new government”.
Pre-vote polls had only a single percentage point difference between the big two; in the end it will be comfortably more than that, but maybe not enough to avoid Serbia’s parliament and presidency clashing in the weeks to come if Nikolic is able to form a majority coalition.
