Trucks in Europe could be looking at a new green tax soon. The European Commission intends to present the project to the Member States next month. The idea is to impose a charge on vehicles of more than 3.5 tons, based on how much they pollute. Noise and high concentrations of traffic will also be taken into account. Brussels hopes to push companies towards investing in more environment-friendly vehicles. The ambition is also to encourage the use of rail to transport merchandise. Currently around Europe, some three quarters of it goes by road.
