Republican Mike Huckabee won five states on Super Tuesday to keep his hopes alive and he vowed to fight on. Addressing supporters, the Baptist preacher compared himself to the victorious underdog in the Biblical story of David and Goliath when he said: “Tonight we are making sure that America understands that sometimes one small, smooth stone is even more effective than a whole lot of armor.”

Huckabee won the southern states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee and West
Virginia where he benefited from a heavy concentration of evangelical Christian conservatives. Before these wins Huckabee’s campaign had been struggling and questions were being asked about its viability.
