Serbia: Nikolic asks for continued Russian help

The hardline nationalist runner-up in Serbia’s Presidential election, Tomislav Nikolic, sees Russia as the more acceptable partner, especially over the issue of Kosovo.
In conceding defeat, he said: “We call on Russia to continue helping Serbia as it has until now, and ask the European Union to end its blackmail of Serbia, and not to impose impossible conditions on us. We are ready to integrate with the EU, but there are conditions which no government could accept, and as a result, neither could the winner of these elections.”

Like the two candidates, Serbia’s long-time ally, Russia, says it will not recognise an independent Kosovo.
